This natural care line created in Antwerp by Maayke Ruyffelaere uses pure wild harvested rosehip oil sourced from the heart of the Andes forest in Chile. We like to think of the MAIWE Skincare label as a flowery bridge between Belgium and Chile which started with Maayke's infatuation with the unique virtues of wild harvested rosehip she first discovered along the shores of the mystic lake Mahue (Maiwe) in south of Chile. Originally from Ghent, Maayke, lived for five years in Chile in the heart of the Andes region. As soon as she set foot among these rocky mountains, she has been instantly drawn to the fascinating nature and wild plants of the region and particularly lake Maiwe nested between volcanoes and ancient forests where rosehips thrive in a unique natural habitat. A bio-engineer by education, she decided to bring back her new found passion for wild plants and combined her scientific knowledge to create a pure, effective skincare brand: MAIWE Skincare.
Rosehip oil is already famous around the world for its incredible skin benefits, however, from having tested so many oils, we know that not all oils are created equally! The quality of the oil is highly affected by its sourcing location, extraction method etc. For MAIWE, their high grade rosehip oil is sourced exclusively from wild harvested flowers in Chile according to a particular know-how and during the autumn season; it's called wild picking which is a process naturally sustainable led by a local community of women. The rosehips are picked by hand in their natural environment, then the seeds are cold pressed in small quantities combining a method of CO2 extraction of both the seed and the fruit. This process is critical to preserve all the virtues and vitamins of the oil. The raw ingredient are then shipped to Belgium where they are formulated and packaged in collaboration with a highly specialized laboratory.
